Why does KF not have a "Spring Game"

Seems to me that you take the player's intensity up a notch with and event like this and provide a great forum for teaching.

What are his reasons for not doing this?

Have you been watching any spring games the last couple years? With crap like, "Defense gets 2 points for diving after a ball that is going out of bounds", and "A Special Teams player that sells popcorn between each series of downs gets a point", coupled with some lame ESPNU announcer saying, "AND there's 3 points for the White team defense for that 'missed' field goal by the Red team kicker", I can live without a "Spring Game", per se.

KF doesn't want to unduly influence recruits with a meaningless scrimmage shown virtually nationwide on the BTN. Either you want to play for Iowa or you don't.

Our Spring "event" hasn't been shown on BTN in a dog's age. We get the "streaming scrimmage" version.

you are making a different point citing synthetic scoring methods.

My point is that in a game setting, with the clock running, players coaches, speacial teams units all have to be on athe ball. They have short about of time to get ready and respond in a dynamic situation. I can't see what would be wrong with that.

The coaches would probably benefit from the game practice more then the players.

Seriously? In April?

Why do we even bother with practice ? Lets just do away with it all togather. Its SILLY
Abo****inlutely it matters. There is a considerable amount of players that are not the best when it comes to practice, but throw them on the field and they kick ***....

Yeah seriously Iowa doesnt have problems with game situations and the game clock. All the other Big Ten teams are just wasting their time. Kirk knows best. Iowa doesnt need thats stuff its april.......Iowa has plenty of time to figure out the basics of football that theyve been lacking for years.

Also bob if you dont remember Iowa didnt go to a bowl game last year. They skipped it so the coaches could go on a cruise. So they should be playing a game. As they have not had one in quite awhile.

Under your skin, maybe? A "Spring Game" is meaningless for this team at this time. And anything "game" situations they learn in April are forgotten by June. Come September, not even in the memory bank.

So they would forget what happens in a spring game but not in a spring practice? So whats the point? Hey fellas show up an hour or so before the game and well pick whose gonna play what.... I do have to give you credit for sticking by kirk no matter how dumb the argument is.

Nothing to do with Kirk, everything to do with "Spring game". They have "Spring Classic" games in Florida high schools now. Stupid. Why do a "Spring game", then have no official practices until August? To me, it's akin to having PTL in May...

Name one good team that does not do a spring game.

Name one good team that does not do a spring game.

Huh? Name one good team that does a Spring game where QBs don't wear red jerseys. Name one good team that has a Spring game that is an actual game simulation with kickoffs, punts, etc., throughout. Name one good team where ALL the Number Ones go against ALL the Number Twos, or better yet, name one good team whose Spring game roster will be exactly the same on opening day.

The point is, they aren't real games. They are mere caricatures of games.
