What happens for two long weeks if Iowa loses Saturday at Purdue? How long can the Iowa media continue to ignore the elephant in the room....that being, KF's immediate future. Or will it be more puff pieces....see Ed Podolak column. I have personally e-mailed several Iowa writers concerning the state of Iowa football and have gotten some pretty frank responses....this only fuels my fire that much more. I can tell you that they are NOT being honest when they write as if their glass is half full concerning Iowa football....they know better, just like you and I do. The only thing they are right about, is that Barta screwed the pooch and it will probably take at least one more horrific season before anything even starts to happen. I'd just like to see ONE article written about the pathetic state of recruiting. Even Iowa's most athletic team to date was made to look slow in the 2002 Orange Bowl...that being said, how are we to expect to EVER come close to that class when we are currently recruiting nothing but leftovers and "Try hard" guys from Iowa? Do not let these columns fool you....the Big Ten is down, and what we are seeing is NOT close to being anything significant...ESPECIALLY on the national level.

They will only recognize empty seats... that has already begun. We saw this same sad story with Alford. Many here recognized very early on that KF was the new Alford. Like Alford, we could be lost in woods for a few years if the first hire doesn't pan out.

Had a change been made earlier you would have kept the fan base 'in the seats'. Now you have the potential of a death spiral... fans are already leaving and a new hire may hasten the exodus if the next HC don't produce some excitement very early on.

The only thing that could create LESS excitement would be if another search committee does the hire...God help us if that happens!

It will be very bad if the hawks lose to Purdue. Of course Purdue sees this game as one they can win, a game against Iowa which doesnt have much offense.

If Iowa can play a complete game they should win. Iowa should not be flat and they should know they are better than purdue

But losing to a terrible purdue team would make for a lousy two weeks waiting to see if have a pulse against Michigan.

The sad part is I can see us losing to Purdue. We have had much better teams that have lost to equally inferior opponents. If it is anything less than a 2 TD lead at half look out.

I will say if we beat Purdue this will be the first season in a long, long time that we have beaten the teams we should beat on a regular basis; ISU, Minny, NW, etc. The only exception might be Northern IL who is good but we should have beaten them.

I didn't know that Eddie wrote a column, what publiciation is that? link? I like him/his perspective

Please share some of that "frank feedback" even if anon.

Hawker - It was a column about Eddie...he did not write it. In a nutshell, all three of the writers that I've been in contact with pretty much admit that the only thing holding up a coaching change is the anchor Barta threw in the boat...the contract. Another thing they admit scratching their heads over is some of the coaching hires, and the confusion over why certain areas of the country are no longer being heavily recruited....not to mention all of the scholarships thrown away on "Timmy from Tama"...that's all I will say....not going to name names.

Some fans will not be surprised at all if Iowa loses to Purdue. Who would have thought after 2010 vs Minnesota that losing to inferior teams would become less shocking in time.

When it comes to playing a game as a double digit favorite since 2005 Ferentz has lost more games than just about rest of the Big Ten combined (BADgers are perfect over that time frame). So yes this is exactly the kind of game Ferentz likes to lose. BTW that stat on DD losses is per Mike Hlas.

I think it's going to be moot point, because I think Iowa will beat Purdue. They are just horrid. But heaven help this message board if Iowa somehow finds a way to lose this game... If that happens, it'll be a type of ugliness that I'm not sure we've seen yet, and two weeks of it.. Yikes. But I have to say, I would be right there with a pitchfork as well. Lose to Purdue - this absolutely MUST NOT happen.

If If If, Lets concentrate on Winning at Purdue. Oh yea KF will be back next year.

I'm wagering Ok4P's totally choice boat, that Iowa will trounce Purcant

choice boat? no no no he doesnt even have a car he takes the train to work. I hope his lawyer gig picks up for him before MA leaves him for some dude with an accord and house. Id keep her indoors so that she doesnt realize that people dont have to live stacked up in boxes here in the states. Its not uncommon for people to own land 20 times the size of a nail salon.

What happens if Iowa beats Purdue and then wins one of their last two exceeding everyone's expectations for this year?

I've personally written letters to several people who act like they know what they are talking about and they told me that all of the best players are on the bench and Ferentz refuses to play them. He knows he has Barta right where he wants him and is just testing to see how bad Iowa can be before he gets fired. They also said that Iowa doesn't even recruit anymore, they just wait until the end of the year and see what Iowa HS players want to play in the big ten and hand them out first come first serve basis. Lastly they said people within the program know that Iowa doesn't try to score points because Kirk beleives truly good teams don't need to score to win

Its hard to believe but after youve seen Iowa play a couple times it makes sense.
