Next Year

So, we pretty much know Ferentz will be here (unless hired by an NFL team-not gonna happen, but throwing it out there). Lets assume Norm is retiring for the sake of this thread. What are our expectations for next year?

Here I go. The first 5 games, one would assume 5-0 (@Northern Illinois-Soldier Stadium, ISU-home, UNI-home, Central Michigan-home, Minny-home), but I guess you never know.

The B1G schedule after those first 5 games (yes, I know Minny is B1G, but it breaks it down better) is @MSU, PSU, @Northwestern, @Indy, Purdue, @Mich, Nebby.

We lose most of our D line. We lose Reiff (more than likely), McNutt, Prater, Nielsen, Kirksey, Bernstein (obviously we lose more than that, but referring to key players at key positions). I'm sure I've missed others.

I'm just curious what everybody possibly sees for next year.

Just to be clear, I'm certainly not throwing away this year. I'm just getting a gauge for next year.

I see a lot of what we are seeing this year ... A very shaky defense ... and coaches who know how to expose it ... Unless the defense vastly improves next year could be a duplicate of this season ...

Where is Kirksey going?

well, minny's going to be better (they can't be much worse and they are certainly improving), so i wouldn't guarantee 5-0 to start. esp with that dreaded ISU game.

7-5 is definitely possible unless Davis can take Marvin's place.

Agreed, Eddy and Mike. No doubt they will be collecting a paycheck and they will do so for the forseeable (SP?) future.

It will not be pretty. Although Iowa's schedule would appear to be soft in most years, we will be a weaker version of the team this year:

Here I go. The first 5 games, one would assume 5-0 (@Northern Illinois-Soldier Stadium, ISU-home, UNI-home, Central Michigan-home, Minny-home), but I guess you never know.

We probably beat N. Illinois 65-70% chance
ISU is probably a 55% chance we win at home (you never know in this game anymore under Ferentz)
UNI is probably a 65% chance we win at home (they should have beat us the last time we played them...yikes)
Central Michigan 65-70% chance we win at home (You never know, Western Michigan was able to do it to us back in 07)
Minny probably 55-60% chance we win at home (That crappy program has beat us 2 years in a row)

So, this tells me Iowa will probably be upset in at least one of these games. Ferentz teams usually do. I will be realistically optimistic and say 4-1 at this point.

The B1G schedule after those first 5 games (yes, I know Minny is B1G, but it breaks it down better) is @MSU, PSU, @Northwestern, @Indy, Purdue, @Mich, Nebby.

@MSU 65-70% chance we Lose
PSU 50-50% chance of winning or losing
@Northwestern 65-70% chance of losing
@Indiana 50-50 chance of winning or losing
Purdue 50-50 chance of winning or losing
@Michigan not going to win 4 in a row 80% chance of losing
Nebraska 65-70% chance of losing

Being realistic I see 2 wins and 5 losses in this stretch

6-6 for the 2nd year in a row to end the regular season (as I believe we get handled by Purdue and Nebraska to end this year).

went looking for the roster, we have 8 freshmen and 1 sophamore out of 16 D-Linemen, i could not find the players that redshirted last year or who is red shirting this year, so for next year upper classmen we will have 2 seniors and 1 junior, the one thing i noticed is they are not that heavy, Hardy is a fr @ 6'5 275, Carl Davis 6'5 300 are the two biggest.
with McMinn at 6'7 and 225 needs weight. we need to get the some weight and need to start getting d-line men that are bigger, my favorite at the moment is Shoff at 6'6 290 runs a 4.8 40, and is a heavyweight champion wrestler to go with Johson who is up to 6'4 290, it will take some time but i think it will be a bigger line up
