Let the portal madness begin

According to this article, Entringer has visits lined up for Louisville, Texas Tech, and West Virginia. Texas Tech is the only one I'd figure to have deep pockets. All three will be a step down in competition so I don't see how they'd improve his NFL chances.

It all depends on depth and health. Iowa and most teams that emphasize the running game need 7-8 guys that are ready to play. Maybe he won't start but if he can develop on become a 1B option at 1 or a couple positions that is what we need. We had some key guys miss some time and while the outcome was maybe not what we wanted, the wheels just didn't come completely off and take us out of the game.

How many people new we were down three OL during the USC game? Not many knew because the drop off was not really noticeable and although we lost the game we were still in a position to win even with all those guys down. That says a lot in my opinion.
That game is a big reason I think Leighton Jones has the edge at LG going into spring practice; he graded out pretty well in that game filling in for Beau Stephens. He was pretty highly recruited out of HS and this will be his fourth year in the program. As you mention, we need depth and I think that is where this new kid could help out. Of course, competition is always a good thing and may the best man win.

Yeah in the 2nd half it was pretty noticeable actually. The TV folks didn't notice/say anything really but it totally was the case and was why we got shut out that 2nd half. We couldn't run the ball or protect Mark at all in that 2nd half despite going up and down the field on em in the 1st so yeah it was noticeable

Odd list... I'm surprised the Michigan schools aren't on it. TT has $$ maybe they'll over pay for him I guess we'll find out.

To me the bigger story in the second half was the defense did a bad job at defending the pass. We had many good pressures but the back end had lots of guys running free. Their QB also made some plays but I put more blame on offense and Defensive play calls than anything else. Lester played too conservative second half and maybe that was because the guys were out but the play calling was much different in the second half and the turnovers didn't help either. The deflection off Gill was a killer

I believe Louisville has some money to throw around I don't think they are bottom of the barrel in NIL. Wonder if there is a chance he comes back or if all bridges are burnt? In my opinion he is replaceable and overpaying for him would be a mistake in the long run

Sure in what ended up being a close game you can take your pick. If the O woulda put just one more drive together for a TD they win. If the D coulda came up with one more stop that didn't result in them scoring in the 2nd half we win. Either one of those two things happen Iowa wins.

Agree I wouldn't overpay him either. He hadn't been the difference maker most thought he'd be. He was ok but that was about it.

USC's QB was throwing darts and hitting ridiculously small windows. Both of those WRs will be playing on Sunday. The DBs have not been super awesome this year, but I don't see USC as all on them. The QB got hot in the second half and Iowa could not match the scoring in the second half (unlike what they did in the bowl game).

I think Tech just signed Perich or they are reportedly signing him, so not sure if they will also roll out $$ for another safety. They may have pretty deep pockets, though.

They do. Many thought at the beginning of this season there were going to be able to buy a championship. I think some are thinking they have more than the Nike Oregon $$$$. If not, on same level.

I think our poor pass defense cost Iowa in all four losses this year.
Weak pass rush and poor coverage.

What a lot of teams are finding out that spent a lot of money is there is only one Champion at the end of the season. At the end of the day the players still need to play and the coaches need to be able to get these high payroll teams to win. At what point will it become unsustainable for some of these teams to keep doing this with no result? Is just making the playoff going to be good enough for the big donors? Will these high pressure jobs kill their chances at getting top tier coaches? What happens if TT has the same result next year or doesn't make the playoff? My guess is the coach is fired and you start all over. Lots of Universities are going to lose a lot of money and end up frustrated looking for the next Cignetti and I don't think there are many out there

It could be that the coach's evaluation of CE came as a surprise to him. There could be a difference of opion about his level of play / his ceiling and his market value. And they were only going to go so far with him.

Phil knows what hes' doing.

Kasper from Oregon --> BYU - commitment announced today. And Illinois State WR Eddie Kasper has entered the transfer portal, following a Redbird career where he totaled 137 receptions, 1,198 receiving yards, and 3 TDs. Also returned punts. Eddie is the nephew of
@HawkeyeFootball
WR great Kevin Kasper.

Kasper turned out to be a nothing burger. Wouldn't have been an upgrade to anyone we have.

Guess we'll see he's got 2 yrs to play at BYU and they'll throw the ball. Are you saying you wouldn't take him over say KJ Parker, Terrence Smith or Buie? Cause I sure would. He'd be our #2 WR day 1. We have RVZ and Howard returning that have done much of anything and those other guys who haven't done squat so if Kyler woulda wanted to be a Hawkeye we'd have been pretty dumb to have not wanted him and see what he could do. I never heard if Iowa even kicked the tires or not my guess is we couldn't afford him so it just didn't go anywhere hence why BYU got him

I don't know, he sure scares me. :)
He's had severe foot injuries the last two years causing him to miss the season. Without knowing anymore information about it that would raise some red flags for me in terms of Bio-mechanics and his body resiliency. If his current Bio information is correct he is pretty sleight of build for a guy that tall.
