Coach -Always talking about going back to basics and letting the guys do their own thing. They need to learn new things to add to what they allready know.
Other teams look pumped up, we dont, Maybe we should get them out of that Million dollar Apartment where they are working out at and put them back into a Motel.
Mr. Bassett will you please reconsider, We will let your siblings workout there, HELL we will let your Mom work out there.

I got ridiculed before the season for saying Iowa might not be a top 7 or 8 team.

Waiting for my apology…

Something broke in Lee when Ramos pinned him. He has never been the same in my opinion. That confidence or mental edge he had is gone. I will say he is still world class but when he gets caught, it's not a good outcome for him. He got thrown right to his back and was cooked.

He needs to find something else in life IMO. If this keeps happening I don’t see good things happening for him on a personal level. Mental heath is a bitch

I don't remember you saying that, and wouldn't have ridiculed you if you did, but I wouldn't hesitate to put serious money on a bet that Iowa finishes higher than 9th at the NCAAs. 5th or 6th is defnitely in play, but if guys stay relatively healthy I see that as their floor. I mean, egads, they came within 1 rideout of tieing a Top 4 team on the road.

Iowa the other night against ISU...

Stall calls: 7

Total takedowns: 9 (6 from Caliendo)

9 remaining Iowa wrestlers combined for 7 stall calls and 3 takedowns. Tell me that's a top 8 team. And then look at Iowa's March results the past 5 years and tell me it's going to get a lot better come B1Gs and Nationals.

Most of our wrestlers are defensive wrestlers were not going to score alot of points that way, more stalls called, less takedowns.

Don't think Telford is the guy, might need some help in our asst coaching.

I think Beth needs to give expectations in writing to the Brands boys. Hoping she already has.
She can do that all she wants, NIL is WAY farther out of whack in wrestling than it is in even football. There's no way for Brands to compete with those top teams. Iowa should have spent the money they had for the new facility on NIL instead, but that project had the unfortunate timing of starting before NIL was a thing.

Definitely a tough row to hoe. Hope they can find a way to be competitive. I don't know how $$'s compare between programs, that would help me understand better. Not a whole lot of people in Iowa that is for sure.

I've always had a ton of respect for Tom and Terry. I think both care tremendously about what they do and are completely genuine - what you see is what you get. They're not interested one iota in what people outside of the wrestling room think. There's an impervious shell of pride and integrity there.

That said, I've been saying and posting for the past 6-7 years that I honestly think their old-school approach to coaching wrestling is wearing thinner and thinner, and resulting in burnt out student-athletes and increasingly diminishing returns.

Where I struggle, is that I have absolutely no ideas on how the administration (and, more importantly, the boosters) could fix it. A coaching change would likely grease the skids on the downward spiral. Suddenly having much more NIL funds no doubt would help, but the deleterious impact of the coaching style would still be present.

At the end of the day, barring some major program implosion, PSU will remain untouchable for at least the next 5-10 years anyway. It's all going to be a battle for second.
