Did we concede the rush - too soon?

Thinking back, we really didn't even try to run the ball - only 11 hand offs for the game, 8 of those in the first half.

Admittedly, we weren't getting yards but given that our identity is to run the ball, with our great Oline... maybe we gave that up, too soon?

The O line didn't look that great today. The only two scoring drives we essentially passed the ball the entire time.

Heck no and honestly they should have done it sooner. MSU actually conceded much sooner than Iowa, got the lead and was able to then go back to the run.

Really can't fault them for giving up on the run.

If we could have established a consistent passing game, we might have been able to come back to the run a bit, but, obviously, that didn't happen...

I think we should have spread them out and gone with bullock and canzeri in the backfield. We could have set up the run with the pass. And we should have done it earlier. I really thought today would have been the best day to have passed on early downs and used play action early (like on the 1st play).

I would have liked to see a few non-traditional runs. Some draws to calm down the pass rush and keep the defense from selling out to the pass. The HB lead needed to be abandoned when it was though.

I would have liked to see them try some different blocking schemes and maybe some power blocking with a pulling lineman, which the hawks have done in the past.

This might have been the type of coaching change and scheme change that would have slowed down sparty

I was wondering if they would run a draw play...don't think they did. GD knows more than me though

Podolak said no. So I will go with Ed

I could agree but our interior line was getting manhandled and Weismann even before the injury looked like he wanted no part of a physical game which was surprising to me.

Did Ed not also say something about this being the best defense since 1968 .... Please

I wondered all day why the hell we got away from the run gm that's our bread and butter. Sometimes I wonder what the hell coach Ferentz is thinking

Probably agree. One must remember last years game Weisman poo pounded this same D for over 100. What the heck happened today?

Only had 10 yards rushing at the half last year. Tighter game and less pressure to play catch up, maybe?
