Iowa despite having some of the best runnings backs in the country and a good offensive line when it comes to crunch time their performance on 3rd and 4th down and short they have a problem of executing. The last two offensive series against Michigan comes to mind and had we picked up either one of them Michigan would never had their last offensive series. Unless you are at the game you might not be able to notice our formations have either one reciever or no recievers flanked leaving 22 players in a very tight space. What would be wrong with flanking 4 recievers out and now you have at least 8 less players in the same space to which to run? Much higher probability of getting first down with 35% less congestion.

Many teams in college do just that, spread the field and have lots of options on short yardage situations. I think it is great to half the time run 4 wides or even 5 wide outs with only the qb in the shotgun. In our case JVB can easily run the qb draw, rollout run pass option, or pick the least covered receiver. Texas Tech, Florida with tebow, Okie State does this.
