Sally Mason's impact on FB &

Everyone focuses on KF and Barta when discussing FB issues. The President's role and commitment to athletic success are very important. She is seldom seen at games or I - Club events. Huge contrast to Presidents Coleman and Skorton. She has not been effective in her role as they were. U of Michigan or Cornel won't look to hire her. GB won't get offers from Stanford or become Power 5 commissioner. How limited is KF in recruiting? We could never get Hoiberg type recruits into IA. I fear our administration is more concerned about academics than athletic success. Per Eddie P and Hartlieb our FB facilities have been behind the curve of similarly funded programs. Can KF improve recruiting with new facility? Can Barta get more 4 star athletes who are 2 star students into IA? Is Sally M committed to winning teams? Bowls by and Alvarez had/have President's who support winning FB and Bb. GB has little power and SM is not a solid leader. Weak leadership by Mason has at least contributed to the issues FB is facing.

OK first off I am a big football fan and a big hawkeye football fan.

But your bolded statement above is stupid. Of course Sally Mason and other administrators and professors and instructors at the UI and the students should be more concerned about academics. Academics is why the university exists, period.

I go overboard about football but I still know that I have 3 very good degrees from the the UI that have meant a very nice work life/career etc for me.

Football is just a game, a high intensity game with fanatic fans but please I dont care if Sally Mason is more involved with academics.

It all goes back to that contract and how the administration at Iowa let it be approved. I think that is the elephant in the room. Should have bought perhaps 3 year extension tops.

I seldom see her at the games too. Turns out ESPN does not interview her and I am not in the stadium. How about you? Do you look for her?

I'll stop there, hang up and listen.

Hoiberg type recruits? Oh you mean free agent transfers that have experience and are proven players. Which makes jesus a great coach.
Can you imagine if RDM broke his foot in a tourney game up by 20+ to AT&T with few minutes left like Niang?
Yea, so great of a coach and so smart. So good at recruiting. Gag me.

That's Mason's fault?

In a way, yes. University Presidents have broad responsibilities. They have a degree of oversight, either directly or through some audit-type process... in any large project or contract tied to the University.

If she is a competent President of a major University,........ the size and visibility of Ferentz's contract most certainly would have drawn her scrutiny and involvement in some form.

Don't kid yourself if you think stuff goes on in the athletic dept and she doesn't know about it. She is lame in some areas, and certainly has not shown a whole lot of favortism toward the athletic dept. publically, but I would imagine she is very familiar with all the regressions and transgressions at Fort Kinnick.

Yes...of course she is. She immediately corrected the drinking issue around Kinnick. She just isn't sure what goes on inside that big stadium...but she has promised to take a look at some point in her tenure.

Not to defend SM,but the game I attended at the press box this season, she made the rounds and visited each suite.

Omg. I don't even know what to say. The pres first responsibility is worrying about academics and the functions of the university. That why universities have AD's. It's not all about f'ball. Actually, i wouldn't want Mason making football decisions.

I fear there are people out there that think you can't have a strong academic institution and strong athletic programs.
