I think we have talent

The simularities between Texas and Iowa this year are striking. I think both teams have talent, but the problem lies within the coaching staff being able to put it together. Let me clarify though. I don't think KF should go, nor will he. Greg Davis was simply a bad hire and a change needs to be made at the end of the season. Phil Parker: TBD, although I would love to see a change in Philosophy which could only happen with a new coach.

My thoughts on offense:
Offensive line: Above average. Even with injuries. Performing well.
TE's: Great skill set: NOT UTILIZED!
Receivers: Above average. JV loves these across the field throws, which gives the receivers no chance to catch and move. What has happened to MM?
QB: Above average. Could be great, but I blame JV's lack of production on GD. I'd rather have Okeefe back.
RB: Above average. Bullock is a stud. Weismann and Bullock make a good combo.

Defense:
D Line: I really like this group. Skill set is above my expectations. Bright future, altough stopping the run is a big problem.
Linebackers: Average. Great tacklers, but lacking speed. I lowered to average because lack of speed.
Secondary: Above average. Very talented, but not well coached. I'm tired of players not looking for the ball. It's common sense.

Anyways, feel fee to agree or bash me at will.

I don't agree with a lot of this. I don't think Vandy is average even, he's below average and was last year too. Also with the secondary, I think they are well coached. Turning to look for the ball at the exact right time is not that easy. It seems easy when you are watching the game, but to do it at the exact right time is not easy. I think the WR are average at best. They drop balls and aren't real deep right now.

I agree with your premise that there is talent on this team but disagree with your conclusions.

You saying the QB is above average makes me wonder if you're related to Vandenberg. The linebackers have speed, they don't always tackle well though. Secondary has one gigantic weak spot (SS).

I like the young talent along the lines, I think Iowa will be pretty good on defense next year, and I think the running game will be one of the best units in the conference next year.

KF had better make a good choice at QB next year because it could be a career altering decision

good summary. I agree mostly, other than JVB problems being on GD, his overall vision and game awareness problems not on GD, although I don't think one off season is enough to have a qb ready for the "read/react routes" scheme, which is why I think we saw some called routs against NW. Also, I think our linebackers are slightly above avg, and don't think they lack speed (maybe if they are covering a SE, which very few linebackers can do and if they can they play in the NFL). lastly, I think Phil Parker has been very good, we are more agressive, have played more man to man, and blitz a little more...everything we have been asking for. You throw in a developed DLine...things get much better !

A touch more speed at WR and most importantly a solid QB with good awareness (speed is not absolutely necessary - good awareness and ability to buy a little time and keep eyes up field)....these things make us a whole lot better on offense. A balanced attack is crucial, and right now we are one dimensional

If Weisman, Bullock, and Garmon stay healthy - and we get lucky with a QB next year, i think we will see some major improvement.

I think Garmon becomes a slot receiver which fills a need for speed at the wideout position.

edit: this is obviously on the assumption that the other RB's remain healthy which is obviously not going to happen with the curse and all.

I think we have a lot of talent in some of the younger guys but no experience. There are positions that really don't have a lot of "talent" what they do have is good desire, a good football IQ and they are coached well. That is a large part of the program we have. QB we are lacking in talent for what I have seen (still haven't seen Ruddock or Sokol), WR to an extent we are lacking, secondary we are lacking in talent but not in coaching or smarts.

If you look at some of the good teams we have had over the past few years they were some of the more talented groups we have had. The rest are so so and we see the results in 6-8 win seasons. Many of the key skill positions we lack in talent most of the time compared to the rest of the conference. The thing that gets me is the mistakes we make on simple things like catching the ball. I can live with not being the biggest or the fastest but how we recruit and what we are able to get in terms of recruits we have to limit if not eliminate all mistakes to be very successful.

People can talk about talent or lack of it, how the coaches aren't doing a good job, how the refs screwed us. In the end in depends on the guys out on the field making plays and not making mistakes. That goes directly back on the players. Blocking, tackling, catching, and throwing still win a heck of a lot of games if you execute properly regardless of talent and we haven't been consistent enough to be successful.

lol. No, I'm not at all related to Vandy. I do think he is better than he has played. I believe he has the skill set, but is lacking confidence. This team really needs a duel threat QB. (wishful thinking)

This X 1000, this is why I am hoping for a bowl game, to get those guys as many reps as possible, i realize it may not help, but definitely wouldn't hurt.

Or, ya know, since a bowl game has gone from possible to unlikely, and knowing full well that horrible vs horribler still = "L", maybe get them some reps when the game situation calls for it? I know, crazy talk. The Corporal is a maverick going against what every other coach in division 1 football would do.

You are as good as how you play, unfortunately. He plays like poo.
