Heavy on Wide Receivers

Iowa had 13 receivers on the roster last year, eight of them on scholarship. Iowa just added five scholarship wide receivers and will have a few walk ons, too...13 scholarship receivers on the roster...that's a lot or at least a huge increase over where they were a year ago.

I would like to see a focus on the lines instead, but this may be the approach in response to our new offensive scheme, which I really do not like by the way.

Maybe Iowa should go after some Jamaican bobsledders. A lot of guys can catch a 1 yard pass. Kirk and Davis exspect them to then run 9 yards for the first down every time.

100% Agree. What are we doing? It seems as if they have taken the shotgun approach to WR recruiting. Lets just get 15 "C" level rated D1 players and hopefully 2 of them will turn out to be decent. Meanwhile, other positions of need are being ignored. I have no problem if KF wants to chew gum and let Grandpa Greg toy around with the offense. Buy, if that is going to happen, you have to recruit effectively. Iowa's WR situation is Exhibit "A" in how to not recruit effectively at a certain position. Are we to then assume all the WR's we currently have on the roster are non-factors?

Outside of finding a strong pass rushing DE what are we missing from the lines that isn't either there already or up and coming? The OLine is stacked and that's not even including Walsh and Ward in the mix. And you have J Johnson and Ekakite ready to start helping on the DLine with Cooper and Ott getting more experienced. I am glad we went heavy on WRs. Maybe we will find some that actually work in Davis' system.

O line will be strong I think, d line we are still outmanned. Not deep enough, not strong enough, not quick enough, and probably not talented enough. I would go for two to three jucos that could contribute now.

DLine is a year away from getting stronger so I will agree with you there. A JUCO ready to plug in would've been nice but I still think the talent is there to get fairly good soon. We had Kenney who would've fit that spot nicely but whatever. But still, last years WR corps was a disaster. Davis is here, more than likely to stay. So we need to find the pieces that make his system work. I don't blame he staff for taking a lot of receivers.

But then I hear guys like Malik Rucker are going to play on the defensive of the ball. Here we have a 6'+ guy and we putting him on the defense. Hate to be obvious but a guy like Tim Dwight would be lightning in a bottle in this tire fire offense. We need guys who are full speed at 2 steps.

From what I have read about Malik Rucker, most people were looking at him as a defensive back over WR. Iowa needs speed at DB just as much as WR. Actually it would be nice to have WR's who catch the ball that is thrown at them instead of worrying about what they are going to do next. Catch, then run. I don't care who does it, I just want them to be able to do that atleast.

and like most years few of them will ever get to show "on the field" what they can do. All those hawkeye sport videos of Fleming tearing up practices and running into end zones----and we then never see him. Heck we never would have seen Wiseman on the field at running back without three or four injuries. Staff decisions are biased most of the time at Iowa. God forbid you ever happen to be a second string QB--may as well transfer as soon as possible

Fleming is a DB now.

Is Powell a 2 year guy or a 3 year guy? I read somewhere that he did not like his offers so he went and played juco for one year....which would leave him with 3 years, right?

Wow, so we had more wide receivers on scholarship than we had touchdown passes last year? I hope none of the new guys are too greedy.

I believe he had to get his associates degree in juco before he could transfer. That would give him 3 years to play 2.

I wonder if any of them can actually run faster than the guys defending them. I somehow doubt it.

Oh, but just you wait until Chris Doyle works his magic!*
