Does Iowa really run a "pro-style" system anymore?

Was taking with a friend today. He pointed out something I had never thought of.

Back in 1999 when Ferentz came to Iowa, he implemented a pro style system, based upon what the pros were doing in 1999. What Iowa continues to do today can no longer really be described as a pro style system, as the NFL has evolved into a pass first league.

Also, PASS BLOCKING is what most linemen struggle with when they reach the NFL. Given that the NFL is now a pass first league, do Iowa linemen still get the experience, while at Iowa, which is crucial to succeeding at the next level? And if not, doesn't that eliminate one of the most compelling recruiting selling points that Iowa has had to offer to potential linemen recruits for the past 14 years?

Just a couple questions I'd love to hear some feedback on.

P.S.
Please don't get your panties in a bunch, all you hard line Ferentz defenders. I'm not attacking the man! lol

Iowa still runs a pro-style system except for throwing the deep ball and the 20 yard type passes past the corner and under the safety.

I would say you see alot of teams on Sunday try to run the ball with big stocky backs like gore, ray rice, bradshaw, forte, and the teams through a lot of first down 4-7 yard passes to try to leave themselves 2nd down and short.

I see the bears, green bay, ravens and all kinds of those teams throwing a lot of short passes, using their tight ends in easy sit down routes over the middle, and like I said running the ball a lot with green at Jets, the redskins have a new big back,

One thing that Iowa doesnt do what a lot of good pro offenses do is "play backwards" which is run in passing downs and pass in running downs.

Iowa almost always runs 98% of the time on 2nd and 10 or so yards to go. It is a terrible pattern and trend and good coaches self scout themselves to get out of those trends. KF should hire a scouting team to tell him where to make some changes in patterns and trends.

And believe it or not but the pros are left many times throwing short of the marker on 3rd down.

Iowa passes more than enough for the linemen to get experience for the next level. The OP's rationalization, most NFL OL would be drafted from pass heavy spread teams like Texas Tech and Washington State. Instead, you see lots of B1G linemen from the likes of Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc. In terms of recruiting, OL is the one area on the roster where you really can't criticize our recruiting efforts over the years. By far the highest star average on the team and they typically perform very well, outside of the last half of this season.

The offense is not the pro set. It's been the "F word -UP" set for some time now.

Iowa ran a pro style offense circa the mid 90s under KF/KOK.

There is no previously known description for what Iowa does on offense now.

Zone blocking scheme with no imagination or creativity. Even Gary Kubiak and Mike Shannonhan show a little creativity every now and then. Ummmmm, nevermind they have to win games to keep their jobs, that whole sense of urgency concept makes you do wacky things like showing a little bit of imagination
