2014 Predictions

I really think we are going to be a bit improved next year...line backers are my big question mark...but with our schedule...I'm going to say 9 wins...but wouldn't be surprised at all with 10. I would bet we will be in contention for the division and a trip to Indy with the Rose Bowl on the line!!

Man, if I could pick one thing in sports besides a Cubs world series...it would be to see the Hawks play in Pasadena...I would almost value that as much, if not more than a national title...

With our schedule anything less than 9 wins will be a disappointment, that said I think we go 8-4, Ferentz is always good for a couple of losses to teams we should beat.

I think we get to 8 given the schedule. I'd not be surprised to lose at either Pitt, or Maryland.

LB and secondary have some questions. Obviously more at LB. In my mind I think we also have questions at RB and WR. I think we really need a RB playing RB, and we need at least one playmaker at WR. The only question at QB for me at least is injuries. They seem to have affected Rudock significantly in the last half of the season. I didn't think he should have started the bowl game, not for the same reasons as a lot of others, I just didn't think he was ready to go, and he didn't look mobile at all.

11-2. 11-1 because of the weak schedule, then getting smashed in a bowl game that we have no business being in. Our falsely lofty record will project us as better than we are.
edit- forgot the conference championship. Also a loss

Offense does not improve much and we're all disapointed. D is what we hope, as it always is. SSDD.

8-4 and with a good dose of vitriol. Write it down.

I agree with 8-4.. I think we lose to Pitt and Maryland..Wiscy and we'll drop another likely to NW.
Hope I am wrong and we we make the trip to the BIG title game. Would love to see our QB make a huge leap in development and lead us to a big season.

Not sure you can predict big things with such a bland offense. Rudock has got to be a bit more than pedestrian next season. Line will be solid. Skill positions have to do more than 2 yds and cloud of dust (WR's included)

Hard to see better than 8-4. Where is the offense going to be any better? It won't - it will be mediocre at best, again.

Who are the play makers? Won't be QB. WR? no..., RB...not seeing any Heisman hopefuls here.

Replacing those linebackers could be a really big issue for this team. As in, close games where the offense can't score enough to overcome what the defense may give up.

Like every hawk team in the ferentz era, it depends on injuries.

No injuries 9-10 wins
Few injuries 7-8 wins
Multiple injuries at the same position 4-6 wins

Ok, I can see us losing to Pitt, maybe...but Maryland, I don't see it. Maryland was awful last year and I'd be surprised if they are ready for the physical demands of the B10. Remember, Penn State was used to 11 win seasons when they joined the league 20 years ago and everyone thought they would win or share the title every other year...they have won 3 in 20 years...and two of those have now been vacated due to the Sandusky years. The ACC was never known as a physical grind it out league...granted, we play them early in the season, but with what we have coming back in the trenches, I don't see losing to Maryland.

Our offense had problems against the top tier defenses we played last year, MSU, Wisky, and LSU. Tell me which teams on the schedule the first ten games have those kinds of defenses returning...none. Factor in a similar improvement expectation on offense that occurred last year and I just don't see our offense struggling against these teams. I also trust Lavar and Jim Reid to get the LB's playing at a high level by game 5/6...not to the level of last year, but solid. Our DL is going to make them look better too. We could have the best DL in the league...and I think they will be better getting pressure too. That being said, Parker has shown he will put Spearman or Meier at DE on second and third and long...both of those guys will be better too. It's also the last year for McMinn/Spears to break in...we are deep and very good on the DL. It's amazing how far we have come in two years. I think Ott has a break out year...he's a great athlete and now has had two years to mature. He's going to be a beast.

I'm sure their could be a slip up somewhere, Pitt, Indiana, NW...but I think we are playing Wisky with one loss. I think the offense makes great strides and the nucleus on D should put us around 12-15 in the country...good enough to win the first ten.

I will be satisfied if we get to 8-9 wins(as in most years), with no loses to 10+ point underdogs. Would love to see 10+ wins with a bowl win. I expect to see a little better offense and maybe a step backward on defense.

We Iowa fans have traditionally over inflated views of Iowa's O-Line. We all know about Iowa's WR corps. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not seeing a whole lot more on O than last year.
