Petras early vs later in games; can Brian F get him rolling early

Just my opinion but I think most of Petras' struggles occur because of immense defensive pressure. The poor guy has lineman right in his face and he is not a mobile qb that can sense pressure coming and avoid it. As soon as we figure out how to protect him better he starts completing passes and...

Can we win at the Breslin Center official game thread.

I believe it was the last time we had a big that could actually jump off the floor.... maybe Acie Earl? Lol

Is there apathy with Iowa basketball with lots of fans?

I don't see that being the issue. Seems like CJ's lackluster D allows as many or more 3s than he scores....

The Annual "Fran Fade" Has Started - AGAIN - This Needs to be the Last One

The problem is that by the time of the middle of the conference season someone figured out or Achilles heel and all the other teams need to do is copy that, and we make no adjustments for the rest of the season, we just keep playing with the same old plan.... by the end of the season, beating us...

So tired of seeing Garza get hammered!

The trouble is, it doesn't seem like we're allowed to do that, we get the whistle as soon as we touch the shooter. Once in a while we get by with some aggressive play, but not very often.

So tired of seeing Garza get hammered!

I'm not blaming this loss on this (it is totally on the hands of our lazy defense), but i get so frustrated seeing Garza get hammered every time he touches the ball. I saw one instance tonight where they replayed the offensive segment in slo mo and Garza got fouled 3 different times on one...

Why is it so hard to learn to play defense?

I have really enjoyed all the different views on this. The thing i keep seeing and i must agree wholeheartedly is the lack of athleticism we have that makes it impossible for us to pressure teams that are so much faster than us. Tonights game really exemplified that, once Toussant, Perkins, and...

Why is it so hard to learn to play defense?

I'm far from an expert, but it is just so incredibly frustrating to watch our defense get burned so many times and giving up so many easy uncontested shots to players that aren't even in any kind of motion. We try to run similar plays in out offense but very rarely do we get uncontested shots...

Why is it so hard to learn to play defense?

Last night was just like we have seen all season (actually pretty well every season). All the opposing team needs to do is have one of their good outside shooters just go in the corner outside the 3 point line and just stand there, don't even attemt tpo move around. Our defense will sag in...

What about tackling techniques on that last drive?

I wasn't calling the players out. what i was trying to point out is that they are doing what they are taught/told, and i feel that is on the coaches. All in all, it is not a huge problem but a different technique could have very well stopped a lot of those yards after contact.

What about tackling techniques on that last drive?

First off, i want to say that i love the way the guys fought during that whole game and they played one whale of a game! But, i can't help but to wonder about how they are being coached as far as tackling technique. On that last drive, we saw over and over where Mich State's back literally...

Just watched the replay on BTN

I watched that on the replay last night, slo-mo'd it several times, and the guy literally had his arms wrapped around Josey's legs and rode him to the ground! Also saw a play on that same drive where i believe we had them 3rd and something at around midfield, Cook scrambled to his right, Josey...

Would a healthy CJ be much better?

One huge difference between the two is that C J has such a better ability to read the opposing defensive alignment, which would never show up on any stat sheets. Many times C J would change a play at the line and the play he puts us in would be a big gainer, where it seemed that Jake always...

think we are predictable on offense?

I have to admit we are not quite as predictable as we were in years past, but just knowing whether a run or pass is coming is a huge advantage to a defense. I am elated with us being 5-0 but i think our offense would greatly improve if we could keep opposing defenses guessing a...

think we are predictable on offense?

I have always thought we are way too predictable on offense and have heard reports of just that from opposing teams' media coverage. It sure seems to me that we telegraph our plays by our formations.... if the tailback is 7 yards or so deep it is going to be a run. between that and when...

    the O line

What is up with the o-line this year and their run blocking? Seems like early in the game our running backs can't even get to the line of scrimmage because there are defenders on them almost immediately after they get the handoff. i did notice yesterday that our tailbacks weren't 7 yards back...

    Murray's field goal kicks

Did anyone else notice how Murray's kicks last night looked like wounded ducks with very little height on them? Was this by design or was he having an off night? if it was by design it looks to me like an invitation for opposing teams to block his kicks.
