I don't read "based on nothing" in the CDC guidelines. It is too much to assume it would be based on the judgement of the doctor? And if we don't use the judgement of the doctor, and we have a lack of testing preventing the cause of death the be determined by that, what are the other options...

We both know I did. So unless you want to start saying doctors are conspiring to inflate the numbers of deaths from the virus, we don't really have anything here. The CDC guidance seems appropriate given we are going to see deaths from the virus without being able to confirm via a test.

Not sure how this example clarifying things. Doctor has their opinion, 70 year old lady has another. You want the 70 year old lady to decide what her cause of death should be? You think doctors have a natural biased in making stuff up without any motive?

So, my general understanding is that because of the lack of widespread testing, there is now guess work in establishing the cause of death as related to the virus. Right? That doesn't strike me as a conspiracy. But common sense as it relates to the consequences for still not having widespread...

Well, the death count is becoming a political football. The crowd that suggested this was going to be like a "cold/flu" are out there suggesting maybe all these deaths are from other things. Maybe the real count is actually lower.

Because of the lack of testing, it's actually pretty reasonable to think we might be under counting at times as well. Is it a fools errand to try to figure out if our under counts exceed our over counts? If people aren't happy with a super accurate death count, maybe we should be asking why we...

Not defending anyone's reporting if it turns out to be false. And by all means, keep score of who is telling you what. But don't lose sight of the reporting that turns out to be true. Because there is a lot of that out there too.
