SIAP - Words from a former Iowa assistant

Why would he mention Kirk and Ken at all if he did not have great respect for them? He certainly could have skipped them and just credited coaches he had worked with more recently.

There is a difference between players from Iowa staying home and players from other states. It is numbers. There are not enough slots on the major programs in most of the other states where we get recruits. Illinois is a good example. At the B1G level just NU and the Illini. Not all of the top...

This is why Jon bans bad mouthing players...

NCAA student athlete have something like a 30-40 percent higher graduation rate than non-scholarship students. The graduation rate for Iowa football players is around 75%. The graduation rate for incoming freshmen is around 50%. They are not as dumb as you think.

    For those that hate Nebraska

No matter who wins or loses that game, Iowa most likely has to beat both of them and Michigan to make it to the conference championship game. It is pretty much the same thing for every team. you pretty much have to roll you division or you will be watching the championship game form home.

    Hawkeyes Offer Robert Gregory

Gregory may say he has an offer and even believe he has an offer. We have seen similar situations where kids say something but are not correct in their assessment.

It would be nice to see more top talent coming from Wisconsin to Iowa instead of the other way around.

to those who dont trust fran..

One major thing I see in Fran that we have not had since Lute or Davis is that he has as history of being able to turn programs around. Alford did it to some extent in Missouri, but Lick started with a successful program at Butler and maintained it. From the looks of what their current coach is...

    Ohio State Gold Pants Pins

Not having seen the show, my question is, "Which players sold them originally, and were the players still playing for OSU when they sold them?" If they were already done playing, no big deal. If they were current players when they sold them, then this sort of establishes a pattern that OSU may...

Did these boards have the same optimism for Licklieter?

A lot of people were, but the slow style of play had many fans worried from the beginning. There was concern that Lick would not be able to attract athletic enough players that could compete at the highest level in the BIG TEN.

Illinois fans are still bitter about Bruce Pearl

It is not illegal or unethical to tape record your own phone conversations. It is only illegal if neither party on the conversation knows it is being taped. Now asking leading questions to try and entrap a recruit is a very questionable thing to do. The bigger question though is, was Illinois...

Illinois fans are still bitter about Bruce Pearl

Pearl taped calls with recruits, probably so he could remember what was said the next time he talked with them. When he told Bob Knight about the conversation with Thomas, Knight contacted the NCAA. The NCAA told Pearl they wanted the tapes and Pearl complied. The resulting investigation...

    Auburn arrests

If these kids had practiced harder and played a little better, they could have gotten in on the big Can Newton style money and not needed to resort to armed robbery.

Quote from the Radio this morning RE: Iowa Draft picks

Linemen rarely get to be "household names" or have a lot of guys wearing their jerseys, but think of the Iowa guys who have had the franchise label stuck on them or made all pro or defensive player of the year. I'd say that Sanders, Clark, Kampman, Yanda and Wiegmann all continued to develop...

    Barkley Hill and James Harrington

It sounds like Harrington could be a really good point guard at Iowa. At 6'0" and 170 he would not be a big pg or wide receiver in football, but his speed would make him a dangerous at either sport. Sounds like he could run a little track too in the off season. Cedar Falls smacks C.R. Xavier...
