Kaden Wetjen tied former Iowa great Tim Dwight with his return TD against Minnesota

Bold prediction...Wetjen will have no more returns for TDs this season, but someone else on the team will: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fLcnQEd2tg

    Floyd thread

I would take mild offense to this statement, as I had a HS teacher who liked to call me Cliff Clavin for my trove of meaningless trivia. Bbut I agree, I am not in the same league as @Northside Hawk .

    Floyd thread

Sort of...one of PJ's mentor's wrote a letter to KF, asking if he would consider taking PJ on as a GA. KF replied with a letter stating thanks for the recommendation, we are full with GAs at the moment, but we will certainly keep PJ in mind going forward (KF must spend half his day with...

Kaden Wetjen tied former Iowa great Tim Dwight with his return TD against Minnesota

Pre-Levar Woods (Chris White was the ST coach), Iowa had Special Teams Efficiency Indexes (via BCF Toys) of... 2013: 73rd in the nation 2014: 82nd 2015: 92nd (mind you, that was with Desmond King on the team) Iowa's Special Teams Efficiency Index since Levar Woods took over as ST coordinator...

Is The MG Tush Push Better Than The Stanley Sneak?

Related...who was the best OL on that team, Wirfs or Linderbaum? And would you tab one of them as the BEST offensive lineman of the KF era? And how was BF's offense so mediocre with that much talent?

Is The MG Tush Push Better Than The Stanley Sneak?

I felt like the Linderbaum/Stanley sneak was automatic from 2 yards and less. I am only comfortable with our current sneak from 0.5 yard or less. I am looking forward to some of our wrinkles off the tush push action.

Kaden Wetjen tied former Iowa great Tim Dwight with his return TD against Minnesota

I saw a few people bitching about jet sweeps in the game thread, but I for one am all for a handful of jet sweep attempts per game. All it takes is a stumble, or sloppy eye discipline, by a defender, and Wetjen could house it. But even more so, a huge part of the running game success over the...

Kaden Wetjen tied former Iowa great Tim Dwight with his return TD against Minnesota

There were some really bad angles taken by Gophers on that PR TD. If you watch the video, #80, #9, and #35 could have all had a chance, but every one of them misjudged just how quickly he would get up to full speed. https://youtu.be/gkUQwocrewY?si=nMz-3kWFVhXghRQi

    Gronowki's 4 interceptions this year

What is his completion % on drop-back attempts this year? I don't know how to access such stats, but Hawkeyegamefilm stated after PSU that Iowa's passing stats out of drop-back attempts are abysmal on the season. Drop-back passing is a completely different animal that throwing...

    Gronowki's 4 interceptions this year

Either late, or just afraid to pull the trigger. I don't know if he is being freaked out by the increased speed and tighter windows at this level and he will eventually adjust, or if he just doesn't have the processing speed to be successful in a drop-back passing game at this level...

Oh to have a QB who can run

It was mentioned during that game that although Iowa has one of the worst passing offenses in the nation, AND they are near the top of the country in 3rd down conversion rate. That is a pretty bizarre combo of stats, but as you said, they rarely face 3rd and 8+ anymore. Because of MG's ability...

Oh to have a QB who can run

I will add, I am fully aware that cherry picking and changing a few plays from any QB's career could make a big difference. Ultimately, shit goes sideways at times, and you have to be a good enough QB to overcome. Last Saturday, Iowa did all of the things you need to do to lose a home game as a...

Oh to have a QB who can run

I have to submit my annual defense of Nate Stanley. That dude made a lot of big plays, and he was good enough to hang around the edge of the NFL for a couple years. And, his entire career as a starter came with BF as the offensive coordinator. Check out Stanley's stats compared to all other BF...

    To defer or not??

Surprised by that, thanks for sharing the data.

    To defer or not??

But there is absolutely no way to predict in advance HOW it will make a difference, so why worry?

    To defer or not??

I am in the camp that this decision makes absolutely zero difference in the outcome of the game. Each game, you start one half with the ball. If its the first, you get a jump start in figuring out their defensive gameplan. If its the 2nd, you get a jump start in figuring out their halftime...

    To defer or not??

I think it is like a batting lineup (our offense) seeing a pitcher (their defense). The more times through the order, the better your chances of figuring things out. They want to see how the D is going to respond to certain formations right away and then get to working solving the puzzle.

    Franklin vs. Farence

KF at PSU would be an interesting alternate history. Let's say PSU leaders had any sort of moral compass, and they gave Joe the boot after finding out about Sandusky's heinous crimes and Joe's willing ignorance in 2001. They hire an interim coach, perform a thorough investigation, and then...

    Franklin vs. Farence

Thanks for putting in the work on that! I don't love that 0-5 over the past 3 years. I think if you expand it to all ranked teams over recent years, it looks even worse.

What Iowa Sports Do You Follow Closely?

Yeah, any criticism of NBA regular season is totally legit. Across the league, there will be a dozen highlights per week that are mind-blowing, but watching an entire game would be a slog. But NBA playoff action is second to none.
