Fran sucked but don't blame it all on him.

Exactly. If Connor & CJ were too injured to play much in the 2nd half, they shouldn't have played in the 1st half when it was clear neither was moving well. Probably wouldn't have changed the outcome, but with the positive minutes Joe T. & Tony P. gave, it might've at least made it a more...

    Who Would You Take?

CJ is a better defender, from what I've seen of Green, he can't keep up with opposing PGs in the MO Valley, but does give good effort. Offensively, there's not much Green can't do, would be fun to see him against higher quality opponents on a regular basis, but the Valley happens to be down this...

    Cincinatti vs Iowa prediction thread

Judging by stats alone, it doesn't appear Cincy is a strong 3-point shooting team, which should favor Iowa. Of course we've all seen poor shooting teams light it up against Iowa regularly, but this year's team seems to have more defensive pride than teams in previous years.

    Basketball Media Day Today

I agree - these jerseys just seem very . . . plain. I wish these had the script font like the womens team's new jerseys.

    The “talent” question

Let's keep in mind we're mainly rating freshmen and sophs. Iowa bball, just like Iowa FB, needs players to develop so they are all-conference level by their junior or senior year. So only having 1 senior who doesn't contribute in games is the true failure here. Will any of the current...

Hawkeyes Come Together in Much-Needed Win

Nunge made a nice offensive play & scored a bucket. Then, did a hard closeout on a non-shooter, got blown by and gave up a 3-point play --- bench for the rest of the night. A mental mistake compounded by a physical mistake. I would've liked to have seen him get more minutes in the 2nd half, but...

How Long does a coach get Part II

Fundamentals are lacking on this team - defensive positioning, ball control, offensive movement. MAYBE this can be traced to the proliferation of AAU basketball - players playing more games with less focus on teaching basic fundamentals. MAYBE coach Fran is used to his players having a base...

This is gonna be a LOOONG season

Missed shots from 5ft and in were plentiful last night. Pemsl missed 5-6 from that range himself. I've gotta think that many close misses is an aberration - make 5 of those bunnies and it's an entirely different game and energy level. This doesn't excuse the fact that Iowa's 3pt shooters were...

MS Receiver Brandon Smith Working Hard to Instantly Impact Hawkeyes

I wouldn't be shocked if one of the "forgotten" returning WRs has a successful season. I'm looking at you Adrian Falconer and Davonte Young.

    Pemsl looks lost

Lately he's a turnover waiting to happen every time he gets the ball more than 5ft from the hoop. Last night he really looked lost on defense in the 1st half. Everybody has bad games now and then, but he could be hitting the infamous "freshman wall" -- mentally more than physically.

    Do you start Cook?

After sitting, Cook will be a bundle of energy whether he starts or not. Due to this, I would bring him off the bench for 2 reasons: 1. He & Baer can provide great bench scoring and energy. 2. Keep him out of early foul trouble that being over-energized often leads to-especially when he'll need...

    Some thoughts on Individual Players

Agree that Moss continues to impress. He seems to be more comfortable/confident with each game, which shows us new parts of his game. He's so fluid when attacking, and has the ability to hang under control in order to finish - has the chance to have a great Hawk career. Was really impressed with...

Preview, Prediction: No. 25 Cyclones Invade Iowa City

I think that 90ish -75ish scoring range is right on. If the Hawks can hold ISU to under 85, I think they'll have a chance in the last 2 minutes. Let's hope the FTs are going in tomorrow night!
